Join us for the premiere of Real Talk, a new conversation series designed specifically for the associate degree nursing (ADN) education community. This series is a space for candid, honest dialogue about the real issues shaping the real lives of nursing educators and the real students we serve.

Episode 1 opens with a pre-recorded segment filmed at the OADN Convention, where Cherie and Nicole first tackled the messy meaning of “resilience.” After we watch it together, we’ll move into a live Real Talk Q&A, diving deeper into the themes and giving space for honest dialogue with the hosts and each other.

Once meant to honor the strength, adaptability, and fortitude of nurses and students, “resilience” has taken on a very different tone in recent years. Too often, it’s used to imply that nurses and nursing educators simply need to “bounce back” or “push through”—even when the environments we work and teach in are overwhelmed, under-resourced, or failing to address the root causes of burnout and attrition.

In this premiere episode, Cherie Rebar and Nicole Heimgartner take on the word head-on. With their signature blend of candor, expertise, and humor, they explore how resilience has been co-opted into a coded message: keep coming back to work, even if the culture is drowning you. Rather than celebrating true human strength, the term has sometimes been weaponized to maintain the status quo.

Together, Cherie and Nicole unpack:

  • The hidden pressures embedded in the way the term is used

  • The difference between authentic resilience and unhealthy expectations

  • What nurses educators really need to thrive—and how to reclaim the word in a meaningful way

This conversation is real, honest, and long overdue.

Episode 1 sets the tone for the series by naming the hard truths, spotlighting the lived experiences of ADN faculty and students, and beginning the work of rebuilding the language—and the systems—that support our community.

Join us as we reframe from resilience not as a mandate to endure, but as an invitation to create environments where educators, students, and nurses can genuinely thrive.

Come ready to listen, reflect, ask questions, and share your lived experience.

It’s time for Real Talk—because our community deserves clarity, connection, and conversations that actually mean something.
